“Mercenaries 2: WiF” Game Guide
Introduction / Game Elements

Welcome to LB’s Mercenaries 2: World in Flames Game Guide. In Mercs 2 you have to take out the evil Solano by doing a ton of contracts / missions in order to find out where he is. And, just when you think you have him, he proves harder to get than you thought. This is an open world, you decide what to do kind of game.

This Mercenaries 2: WiF walkthrough offers tried-and-true, fool-proof methods for eliminating each enemy. It covers every contract (mission) and every outpost mission on single player. It also covers game elements in detail, from how to steal a lot of fuel at once to how to capture HVTs.

These strategies tend to use the most readily available vehicles, airstrikes, and armaments possible, so that anybody can get through the missions with the most basic of equipment. They may not be the fastest or the flashiest strategies, but they work. If you’re having trouble with a particular contract or mission, just follow our strategies and you’ll be victorious!

This walkthrough is based upon the Xbox 360 version of the game. Controls are referred to generically with X360-specific controls in ( ). You can view your controls at any time by going to the Pause Menu >> Controls.

Choosing a Character

You have a choice of three characters, Mattius, Chris, or Jen. Each has their own perk, but your selection does not affect the game at all. Mattius regenerates health faster, Chris can carry more ammo, and Jen can run fast. Because I hate waiting around while my character runs from place to place, I chose Jen.

Game Elements

Health

Your health automatically regenerates. Also, some enemies drop health packs when they’re killed. In general, if your health is low, you’ll want to get out of the area to somewhere safe and allow yourself to heal. You can also call in a Medevac at any time.

Medevac

If you need to get out of a sticky situation you can call in a Medevac by going into the pause menu (hit “Start” on the X360). It costs $10K and will take you back to PMC HQ. You will rarely need to use this as the game is chock full of checkpoints during missions, so even if you do die, you’re rarely that far back.

PDA

Your PDA is your central source of information. It contains your map, stockpile, and info.

Map – You can scroll around the map to see what is what. You can place a beacon on the map which will then draw you the shortest driving distance between you and the beacon (GPS). You can call up “Factions” to see who has what missions available to you at any given time, or, if on a mission, you can call up “Objectives” to see exactly what it is you need to do.

Stockpile – Your stockpile is the place where you can view all of your available airstrikes, vehicles, and supplies. You can then assign them to be “Equipped” so that you can call them in. You earn stockpile items by completing missions, doing side jobs, or purchasing them at the various outposts.

Info – Kind of self-explanatory, info is most useful to see your current status with any given factions, that is, if you’re hostile, neutral, or friendly with them. In general, you’ll want to stay neutral or friendly with the factions. You can always bribe a faction to make your rating friendly.

Otherwise, info has a nice log so that you can see what was said and what your objectives are.

COMPLETE “MERCENARIES 2″ WALKTHROUGH

Radar / GPS

I refer to the little map at the lower right of your screen as either the radar or GPS. Blue icons are friendly to you. Red icons are your enemies. Red diamonds are SAM (surface to air missile) or AA (anti-air) sites which will shoot down your helicopters and make it so you can’t call in airstrikes. You can also view the various faction icons and if you have a beacon places, the path will be shown to you on the radar.

The other icons that appear on the radar are green and are either fuel, airstrikes, or cash.

Bribing

Once you have angered a faction and your rating with them is “hostile” you can visit Fiona, at PMC HQ, talk to her, and choose to “Bribe faction”. It is often expensive, but worth it.

Helicopters/Landing Zones and Transit

Once you discover, Ewan, the helicopter pilot, you can call in a Transit at any time. This is like a warp. You can instantly travel to any unlocked landing zones. You unlock landing zone by completing the various “Outpost” missions throughout the game.

Shopping

Once you have completed some outpost missions, you can visit the outposts to purchase airstrikes, vehicles, and supplies.

Factions

There are five factions in the game: UP (universal petroleum), PLAV (people’s liberation army of venezuela), Pirates, Allied Nations, and Chinese Army. There is also the VZ (venezuelan army) who are the enemies of everybody, and you, the PMC.

Stealing Fuel

In order to call in airstrikes, get vehicles and supplies delivered, or use transit, you need fuel. Be sure to purchase the various fuel upgrades at the outposts throughout the game.
Getting fuel is really a matter of stealing fuel and you’ll need to have unlocked Ewan, the helicopter pilot, to do so. When you see a fuel tank, go up to it and hit the prompted button to “Steal Fuel”. Then, call in a “Resource Pickup”. Ewan will fly in and pick it up for you. Each fuel tank is worth 500 fuel.

If you are seen stealing fuel, an alert will go out from a nearby soldier. You can either run up to him and melee attack him to stop him from reporting you, get out of the area, or enter an outpost so that you won’t be fired on.

The best way to steal fuel efficiently is to go to an outpost that has a lot of fuel, like PLAV – Southwestern Amazon Outpost and Pirates – Mainland Coast Outpost. Once there, run from fuel tank to fuel tank, marking as many as you like for pickup. Then, call in your resource pickup and you’ll see that in one go of it, Ewan will pick up all of the fuel that is marked. In this manner, you can easily grab four or five fuel tanks for 2000 or 2500 fuel.

Stealing Money and Airstrikes

In the same way that you steal fuel, you can also steal money and airstrikes. These are also randomly marked throughout the map with green icons and can often be found in outposts. Again, you can mark any variety of things for pickup and then call in resource pickup to grab them all at once.

Airstrikes

Once you gain the ability to call in airstrikes (you’ll need a jet pilot) all you have to do is open your airstrike menu (by pushing Up or Down on the D-Pad) and select what you want to use. Of course, if want you want isn’t there, you either don’t have it, or need to equip it via the PDA >> Stockpile menu.

Airstrikes come in two different forms: Either they are dropped by your jet pilot, or they are ground/ocean based, like artillery strikes and cruise missiles. The advantage of ground-based attacks is that they are not susceptible to enemy SAM sites, meaning you can call them in even when there a lot of red diamonds on the map (SAM sites) which will shoot down your jet.

Airstrikes are called in in four different ways: Beacon, smoke grenade, laser, or satellite. With beacons and smoke grenades you need to be very close to your target. That is, run up to it, toss the beacon or smoke, and then run away. The advantage of laser or satellite is that you can be farther from the target (and therefore safer and/or sneakier).

Supply / Vehicle Drops

You call in supply and vehicle drops from the same menu as airstrikes. Simply equip the thing you want delivered via the stockpile, and then call it in. If it’s supplies, be sure you watch where the supply crate goes flying because if you don’t watch, sometimes it’s hard to find.

Disguises

When you hop into a faction vehicle you’ll notice a meter appear on the left of your screen. If you drive away from where you got into the vehicle, and don’t cause on ruckus, you’ll see the meter turn green and you’ll then be disguised a member of that faction so long as you don’t loiter or cause any damage.

Disguising yourself comes in handy for a variety of missions in that you can drive disguised into an enemy area and then open fire…like a one person Trojan Horse.

HVTs (high value targets) and Destroy Targets

Each faction has a group of targets that they want eliminated. There are 10 HVTs, which are human targets, and a variety of regular targets, like buildings that they want destroyed. You can find these marked on your map as blue icons. Doing them unlocks various items for you to purchase and/or gives you money.

Capturing HVTs, Alive or Dead?

You can capture or kill HVTs, it’s up to you. Killing them will only net you half the bounty, but is much easier.

To capture an HVT you need to first locate him, then run up to him and melee attack him (give him the good ‘ol elbow to the face). Once he’s down, stand over him and look for the prompted button to “Subdue”. Once you have him subdued, you can call in an extraction helicopter. When it lands, you’ll need to “Carry” him over to it.

That is all easier said than done, however, as these HVTs are just standing around waiting to be captured. They are often protected by many men and, if there are any SAM sites in the area, you’ll need to eliminate them in order for the extraction chopper to land.

Killing them is much easier and is my preferred method. Kill them however you wish…shoot them, fire on them from a helicopter, call in an airstrike on their location…it doesn’t matter. With an HVT dead, all you have to do is run up to the body and stand over him. You’ll get a “Verify” prompt. Do so and you’ll take a photo of him. That’s it.

Challenges

In addition to regular missions, each faction, including your own PMC, have a variety of challenges for you to complete. They are self-explanatory (do “x” in a limited amount of time) and you are rewarded with various items. You can also bet on the challenges, up to $100K.

Saving and Loading

The game has an autosave feature, however, don’t rely on it. At various times throughout the game, go into your pause menu and choose to save your game in a new slot. I recommend you do this a few times for the same save (different slots) as I encountered many loading glitches where the game froze when trying to load.

To load a particular game save, from the loading screen of the game, choose “Options” >> “Manage Saves”. Then, select the one you want to load.

Spare Parts

Scattered throughout the game there are 100 red box spare parts (like pigeons in GTA4 or trophies in the first Mercs). Finding them allows your mechanic to build you custom vehicles.

Here is a link to a map of all 100 spare parts. Please keep in mind that at the time of publication this link is working. We do not take responsibility for links that no longer work or third party material of any kind.

RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK

Chapter 1 – The Lost Temple

The Jungle

Head left and you’ll learn how to switch back and forth between characters. Locate the ladder on the left, get under it, and hit your “Jump Button” to open the hatch to the balcony. With it open, climb up the ladder and grab some studs. You’ll also learn how to swing long distances by using your whip.

Once back on the ground, head right to the broken bridge and hit your “Jump Button” while running to grab onto the vine. Swing across the gap and jump off of the vine to safely land on the other side.

Here, you’ll learn about building piles of LEGO bricks. Simply hold the “Build Button” (the game tells you what button to hold) until the object is built. In this case, you’ll assemble a trampoline. Jump on it and hold the jump button to go higher.

After you’re done playing around with the trampoline, head right and use your whip to cross the gap of the broken bridge. Destroy the stone holding the vine so that your buddy can also cross.

Just to the south of the bridge (toward the screen), you’ll see a sparkling buried object. Switch characters to Satipo (the tribesman) and dig up the LEGO object. Pick it up (you’ll be told what button to use) and carry the object to the right to the highlighted green LEGO on the cliff’s edge. Drop it using the same button as for digging/carrying. The object will unfurl and create a suspension bridge for you to cross.

Continue right and, after the third tiki statue, watch out for the orange pressure plate in the ground which activates an area of spikes. Past it you’ll find a buried LEGO object, a tiki head. Dig it up and carry it over to the tiki base to the left of the stone door. Now that the statue is back together again, push it back by simply walking up to the front of it and moving in the direction you want to push it. It’ll slide back, thus revealing a pressure switch. Step on the switch and the stone door will partially lower.

Head over to the tiki statue to the right of the door. Push it back and then step on the switch it reveals to fully lower the stone door. Go through.

Waterfall

You’ll find yourself in a waterfall area. Switch to Satipo. Assemble the raft and then hop on it by pressing the button the game tells you. Wait for Indy to join you and then paddle right, until you can hop off onto the dock. Head up the hill and you’ll encounter some spiders! Egad man! Attack them and they’ll perish quickly.

COMPLETE “LEGO INDIANA JONES” WALKTHROUGH

At the far end of the area (north), you’ll see a stone door. Just before it are four hexagon-shaped floor pads through which a spear will pop up. Avoid getting stabbed by the spear, and if you wish, you can grab a spear and throw it at a spider (you’ll automatically lock on to the nearest spider).

Once the spiders are clear (they’ll come back so move quickly), note that on either side of the door is a vine hanging down. Jump up to either vine and your partner will do the same. Your weight will pull down the vines and the door will lower.

Outer Temple

You’ll find yourself inside a temple. Note the brown horizontal bars. I’ll be calling these SHIMMY BARS.

Head to the left and jump up to the shimmy bar. Jump up again and climb the ladder. You’ll end up on an upper ledge with a square brown pad. Step on it and use your whip to cross the gap to your right.

Here you’ll see a brown crate and three pressure switches (orange, green, orange). Your partner is still below and you’ll need to help him cross the spiked platforms below. Place the crate on the middle, green, switch (avoid stepping on the first orange switch if you can). Next, step on the first orange switch. Stay on it until your partner gets to the middle platform below. Finally, step on the far orange switch and wait until your partner crosses to safety.

You’ll see him use the crank, which permanently retracts the spikes. Head back left, drop down, and then cross over the now-safe platforms. (Note, that you may need to use the DOUBLE JUMP to reach the first platform. Jump, and while in the air, jump again to get a little extra distance.)
Step onto the brown square pad and you’ll be told how to use your whip to pull out objects that are out of reach. Do so and you’ll pull out the statue’s tongue, which also pops out some bricks. Assemble the bricks to form a ladder. Climb up the ladder and jump up to the vine above (if you just keep pushing up while climbing the ladder you’ll automatically grab on to the vine). Swing back and forth a tad and then jump off to the right so that you land on the upper part of the path.

Head right and quickly run across the suspension bridge as it’ll collapse behind you. Just past the bridge you’ll see a stone door, and in front of it, a pathway booby trapped with arrows that shoot out of the wall.

Note the clear patches on the path (they have studs on them). Jump from one to another. Each time you do, it’ll raise up. Once you’ve jumped to all four patches (and raised them all) the door will open. Go through.

Inner Temple

You’ll find yourself in the inner part of the temple. There is a crank that needs a key. To the left is a vine. Jump to it and it’ll open a hatch. A key will drop out. Grab the key and bring it to the crank. Operate the crank until it stops, thus forming a bridge of stone platforms for you to cross. Approach the gold idol.

After the cutscene the temple will begin to collapse. A door in the back will open. Cross the rotating stones and go through the door.

You’ll end up on the other side, to the right of you is a vine. Jump to it (if you keep missing it, note where your partner is standing, near the frame of the doorway, and jump from there to it).

Run right, down the path, avoiding the rolling tiki statues. You’ll soon reach another vine that you need to jump to. Do so and then jump to the right. On this pathway, you’ll see two vines hanging down. Jump to one of them and wait for your partner to do the same. Your weight will raise up a platform. Hang there until one of the tiki statues comes rolling down and breaks through the wall to the right (the tiki statue will fall into the abyss if you don’t hang there to keep the platform raised).
Go through the now-open wall to the right. You’ll now have to deal with the famous rolling boulder scene by running toward the screen and jumping over the gaps (double jump if you need to). You’ll soon be spit out into the jungle where you’ll encounter…Belloq!

The Plane

Run down the path toward the plane. When you arrive, you’ll note that the plane doesn’t have a propeller. Rats! Take out any nearby natives who are bothering you and then use your whip to grab onto the blue/brown crate near the back of the crane. Carry it over to the green platform and drop it. Grab the other blue/brown crate, this one the shore near the front of the plane, and drop it on the green platform next to the other crate. They’ll bust open. Assemble the blue LEGO pieces to create the propeller on the plane, all the while dealing with any natives who are bothering you.

Although the propeller is attached, it is still broken. Switch to Jock, the other character, and stand in the water near the propeller. Hold down the button so that Jock fixes the propeller. If this isn’t working, you’ll need to keep changing your position until you find the right spot.

Introduction

Controls

Welcome to Lunabean’s Unofficial The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian Game Guide. Because this guide was written for use with multiple consoles (PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii) and the PC, controls are given throughout the game by the action a button provides, rather than specific buttons. For example, the walkthrough will read, “Press your ‘Change Character’ button” instead of “Press ‘Y’”. To figure out which actions correspond with the console on which you are gaming, enter the Pause Menu > Options. It’s that easy.

Items

Shards – As you play through the game you’ll see shards (armor pieces) of various colorings around you. Collect them to increase your armor, hence the amount of damage you can take.

Hearts – Breaking certain objects or slaying random enemies will sometimes produce a Heart. Collect it before it disappears to fill up your health.

Weapon Upgrades – Occasionally you’ll spot a glowing weapon on the ground. These weapons inflict more damage. So, whenever you spot one, pick it up. You’ll automatically drop the weapon when you open a chest, pull a lever, use a different weapons, or when it runs out of juice.

Keys – Keys are found throughout this game. Collect them when you see them, as they are used to open chests. Keys regenerate if you die and/or return to a level, so it’s not hard to find enough to open all of the game’s chests.

Chests – Bonus chests are found throughout the game. Unlocking them unlocks bonus missions and other game secrets. This guide includes the location of each and every Bonus Chest.

Cair Paravel

Defend Cair Paravel

After a cutscene you’ll be immediately thrown into battle. Go ahead and enter the Pause Menu > Options to view your controller’s buttons/actions. Once you’ve studied them, return to the game.

You’ll soon be taught about Changing Characters (stand close to someone in your party and hit the “Change Character” button to take control of that character), and Blocking. Follow the on-screen instructions to pull these actions off, then start fighting those who are coming at you. Use Light and Heavy Attacks to take them out.

Once the enemies stop coming en masse, you’ll get some time to think. You have four tasks to complete in this level. They can be done in any order. Let’s start with the destruction of the War Machines.

COMPLETE “NARNIA: PRINCE CASPIAN” WALKTHROUGH AND GUIDE

Destroy the War Machines

Approach either of the two glowing levers near your entrance, and hit the “Action” button to grab it. Follow the on-screen instructions to pull (tap “X” on the PS2), thus opening up the door. (Note, if you’re playing alone, someone on your team will automatically pull the other lever. If you’re playing with a partner, have your partner pull it).

Stay in the central area, but move toward the bottom of the screen. As you’re going, you’ll come across a Giant. Switch to the Minotaur (if you’re not already him) and team up with the Giant (hit your Changing Characters button). You’ll automatically climb on his back. Together, knock down the surrounding enemies.

Eventually you’ll get a cutscene of some catapults (a.k.a. “War Machines”). When it’s complete, guide your Giant to the bottom of your screen (middle), where you’ll find a catapult. (Note, you can use the map on the bottom right corner to guide you there). Smash it with Heavy Attacks.

Head left to the second catapult. Along the way you’ll encounter some resistance, in the form of a few enemies roping your Giant. Simply cut the ropes to free him, and hop back on his back. Destroy the second catapult.

Finally, make your way to the far right side of your screen, where the third catapult is located. To reach said catapult, you must cross a bridge. This will cause trouble for your Giant, who will fall through the bridge. Look for a second Giant (he’ll probably come to you), hop on his back, then pull the Giant out of the pit following the on-screen instructions (hit “O” then tap “X” on the PS2).

Dismount from the second Giant (“Change Character” button) and mount your first Giant, who is standing next to a large rock. Push it over, then destroy the third Catapult.

Objective complete.

You’ll find yourself back in the Courtyard. Head left and you’ll spot some gears. To the left of the gears is a doorway. Switch to the Dwarf (the shortest being in your party) and stand on the left side of the doorway. Above you there should be an icon with a button label on it (“X” on the PS2). If the icon shows a head with a “?”, you still need to switch to the Dwarf.

At this point you’ll be given instructions on how to toss the Dwarf’s grapple (on the PS2, tap “X” then move the left-control stick clockwise until the grapple is automatically tossed). A successful toss will land on the above balcony. Climb the rope up and activate the lever to the right, thus lowering the gear. Collect the shards, then return to the ground.

Switch to the Minotaur and have him collect the gear with the “Action” button. Place it in the open slot with the other gears. This will cause a grate to open. Run to it (on the right side of the courtyard, near the front) for shards and a couple of Keys.

On the right side of your entrance there are more gears, including one hanging on the wall to the right. To get it down, switch to the Satyr (the goat man), and follow the on-screen instructions to use your arrow (on the PS2, hold “L1″ to target, then shoot with “X” or “Square”). Have the Minotaur place it among the other gears to lower a nearby doorway. Enter it (right side, under the stairs) for more shards and two more Keys.

Protect the Battlements

Smash the cart at the base of the stairs by using the Minotaur’s Strong Attack (hold “X” on the PS2). Climb the stairs, then have the Satyr shoot at the icon above the door. Move through the door and enter the next area.

You are stuck up on the balcony, and you must free the Giants down below. To do this, pick up the various objects on the balcony (use the Minotaur), step out on one of the open balcony extensions. aim your throw (on the PS2, hold “L1″ and move the left control stick to target, then release), and pop the enemies holding your Giants hostage. Three to four direct hits should free them both up.

After a quick cutscene you’ll find yourself on the back of a Giant. Chances are he’s not completely free at this point, so, hop off his back and take out his captors.

Next, your goal is to eliminate the 8 archers in the area (note the count at the top of your screen). Do this on your own, or on the back of a Giant, but find them all (they are spread out, all near the three fire circles), and smash them all. When they go down, your task will be complete.

Find Susan’s Horn

Head straight across the Courtyard to the opposite side. Here you’ll find a gated door. On each side of the door is a pressure pad. Step on each one to activate the door. Move through it.

Go right and up the stairs. Fight the enemies and head left. Look for a path at the bottom of the screen (parallel to the staircase you used getting up). Run along it until you reach some objects on the ground. Pick them up and toss them away with “Action”. When the path is clear, move forward and you’ll be out on the balcony.

Fight off the enemies quickly, as you must cut the ropes to the chandelier before time runs out. To do this, use the Dwarf to cut the two ropes connected to the balcony you’re on. When this is complete, switch to the Satyr and shoot the two glowing ropes on the opposite side (remember to use your “Target” button). When all four ropes are cut, the chandelier will drop.

Next you must eliminate the guards before the chest is open (watch the timer). Do just this. Note, if it looks like you’ve taken everyone out but the timer is still ticking away, you still have men to eliminate.

Once the area is clear, approach the chest and open it to reveal the Horn.

Objective complete.

Sink the Telmarines’ Fleet

From the Courtyard entrance, head left, then to the bottom of the screen. Climb the staircase and you’ll find an opening fit for a Dwarf. Switch to him and move through it. Pull the lever at the top to open the large door, then move the gang through it. Fight off the many enemies until you reach a cutscene.

When the game starts back up you’ll spot a glowing box in front of you. Pick it up, carry it to the right, and hang it on the chain (you’ll see the white outline, indicating where it needs to go). This will raise the gate to the right of it. Move through it.

Your first goal here is to eliminate 30 soldiers. I enjoyed using the Minotaur to complete this task. Use who you want.

Once the 30 soldiers have gone down, your job is to eliminate the Chieftain, as he is calling in reinforcements. He is the guy in the full body armor, and he will almost always be close to you. Again, I chose the Minotaur to take him out. Use whomever you please. Also, while you may feel like you’re doing little damage to the Chieftain, you are hurting him. Watch the red dots in his health meter disappear for proof of this. If you’re running low on health, take down some of the surrounding Soldiers, as many will give up health.

Once the Chieftain goes down, locate the Gryphon (he’s hard to miss), and hop on his back. He’ll take you to an area with a Ballista and three ships. You must use the Ballista to pop off the three ships. To do this, simply follow the onscreen instructions to attach, aim, shoot, and wind the Ballista up for the next hit (on the PS2, hit “O” to attach, move the left control stick to aim, shoot with “X”, wind up by moving the left control stick in a circle). Hit the first ship twice to take it down, and you’ll be returned to the area with the Soldiers and Gryphon.

Back on Soldier turf, take out the five Archers in the area (their fire arrows make them stand out). They are all on the right side. One is near the gears, one is up on the stairs, two are along the path to the right, and one is on the balcony extension.

When the Archers have been defeated, you’ll have some familiar battling to do. Again, take out the Chieftain, then eliminate 25 Soldiers. Upon doing this, the Gryphon will return and you’ll be placed in front of another Ballista. You know what to do. Use the Ballista to destroy the second and third ship. You’ll have to fight off enemies while doing this, but that’s not much of a problem, as there are many openings allowing you enough time. You should also note there are two Ballistas.

Once the ships have been destroyed, your objective will be complete.

Escape

With all of the tasks complete, you must now escape Cair Paravel. First and foremost, this means finding a Giant and hopping on his back. Your Giant friend can be found on the opposite side of the Courtyard. Free him of the ropes by taking out those holding him, then hop on.

Next, close the Main Gates (shut the large doors by your original Courtyard entrance) by following the on-screen instructions, then get ready for battle!

Use the Giant to help you eliminate 25 Soldiers and 2 Chieftains before the timer on the right runs out. Taking out the 25 Soldiers is easy. Just do it fast, so you have time to deal with the Chieftains.

The hard part about eliminating the Chieftains is not defeating them, but finding them, as they blend in quite easily with the Minotaurs. The easiest way to do this is to move to the gate opposite the main entrance (the one that took you to “Find Susan’s Horn”) and wait for the two Chieftains to come out. When they do, have your Giant smash them to bits.

When the Soldiers and Chieftains have been eliminated, the chapter will come to an end.

Chapter Bonuses

1. In the Courtyard, front right corner.

2. In “Destroy War Machines” area, by the third catapult, on the right side.

3. In “Destroy War Machines” area, to the right of the first catapult, in the middle.

4. In “Destroy War Machines” area, near the second catapult, on the left.

5. At the beginning of “Protect the Battlements”, on the balcony from which you are tossing the objects.

6. Near the entrance in “Find Susan’s Horn”.

7. Up the first set of stairs in “Find Susan’s Horn”, head left.

8. After dropping the chandelier in “Find Susan’s Horn” you’ll find yourself fighting off guards. Run to the bottom left corner of the room to find the chest.

9. In the upstairs area of the Courtyard (as you approach the “Sink the Telmarines’ Fleet” section), there is a treasure, along with many keys, in an open area behind broken windows.

10. As you’re eliminating soldiers in “Sink the Telmarines’ Fleet”, look to the left of the fountain.

11. As you’re eliminating soldiers in “Sink the Telmarines’ Fleet”, step out onto the balcony extention to find this treasure.

12. As you’re eliminating soldiers in “Sink the Telmarines’ Fleet”, look on the right side, in a corner.

13. As you’re using the final pair of ballistas in “Sink the Telmarines’ Fleet, look directly behind the one on the right for the chest.
Hidden Bonus – In “Find Susan’s Horn” to the right of the chest, is an alcove missing some gears. The first gear is to the left of the glowing crate. Grab it and insert it into the glowing slot in the alcove to your left. Next, grab the glowing crate and walk it over to the right side. Set it on the white outline of the crate, and the crate will fall. Cross it to collect the second gear. Insert it for the bonus.

No Love Lost
——————–

Go to Firefly Island. After the cutscene, chase the biker. Be cautious on the speed and sharp turns on this bike, its easy to fall and lose the biker. You can also ditch the bike and grab a car. Careful on the highway, the biker flips a car on its side, and can throw you off your bike or demolish your car.

After a minute or so, a few more biker buddies join the first, so kill them all. They’ll soon get off their bikes, so ditch your ride and hide behind a tree, and pick them off one by one.

——————–

Grab a car, and go to the dealer’s location. Follow him for a while, and he’ll lead you into a warehouse. You can either blow open the front door, or sneak around and go up the steps in back. On top of the building, there is an open skylight you can drop into.

I prefered entering the front entrance. A lot of blind firing works well for the first few here, as they are right in front of you. Move up slowly, and some easy flanking can take htem down. Leave the warehouse to finish it.

You recieve $1000

——————–

Go to Windmill Street. Head over to the gang hangout. Kill the two standing around, then follow the ones in the car. Or you can toss a Molotov at the car to smoke them out. Expect lots of cops on this one, depending on when they see you start the killings.

You’ll call Manny when your finished. Call Malorie aftewards, and she’ll reference you with another contact. Drive to the E on the map.

——————–

Go the building in South Bohan. Go up to the roof and get the sniper rifle. Overlook the meeting, and soon enough everyone pulls out guns. Start picking off the guys with the rifle. One will get in to the van at the back, so shoot through the windshield. Another guy will sometimes rush Patrick, and you’ll need to protect him.

You recieve $1500

——————–
Blow Your Cover
——————–

Go to the apartment. Go up to the third floor. Shoot the guys across the hall, then move out to the stairwell. Every level has a few police on it, so start blasting away. I mainly used my submachine gun, it brings them down quickly.

On the roof, switch to a pistol if you want more accuracy, once you disable them, move in and mow them down. Keep moving along the rooftops. When you’ve killed all of them, Playboy asks you to return him to his ‘crib’. Careful going down the stairs, there will be more cops.

When you’ve lost your wanted level, drive him back to his place.

You recieve $2000

——————–
——————–

——————–

Go down to Castle Gardens. Get the sniper rifle, and start picking off the other snipers. If you move in too close, they will spot you, so stay in the street generally.

Once the three snipers are dead, move into the compound. Start taking out all of the Union leaders. The best way is to move slowly with a sniper, and easily pick off all the workers. For the fourth leader, backup will arrive.

The last guy has a batallion of guys between him and you, so get ready to use all your arsenal. When your finished, you’ll call X back.

You recieve $2000

——————–
Photo Shoot
——————–

Go to the basketball courts. Take a picture of the guys, and you’ll have to kill the guy that X identifies. If you rush in, his friends can take you out quite easily. Possibly the easiest way is to stand on the other side of the street, and whip out a sniper and put a bullet in his head. Grab a car, and head off.

——————–
——————–

Go to the strip club. Listen in to conversations to locate the managers to kill. Once you kill the first guy near the entrance, the others will escape out the back. Go out the entrance, and grab a car.

Francis

You recieve a text message from an unknown caller, so drive down to the pier to meet him.

——————–
Call and Collect
——————–

Drive down to the location, and dial 843-555-0124. Go down to the lowest level, and look for him. If you can’t find him, dial the number again, and start walking around. He’ll jump up and run when you get close to him. Grab the storage device, and lose the wanted level. Drive to Francis when your finished.

You receive $1000

How to Use this Walkthrough

This walkthrough is broken up into the areas you’ll go. The heading name for each section corresponds to the area you’re in, which you can see by opening your map.

Each area is broken up into “Main Story Walkthrough” and “Extras”. If you simply want to get through the game, doing only what is necessary, then you can just stick to the “Main Story Walkthrough”. If you want to find all of the extras in the game, then you can can also read the “Extras” section, which is further broken down and conveniently bullet-pointed.

Please keep in mind that you will often go to certain areas two or three (or more) times. Because of this, please pay particular attention to where you are in the walkthrough. If it doesn’t sound like what you’re doing, then look to see if there is another time that you’re supposed to visit the area you’re in.

Finally, things like a new Brush Stroke are described in the walkthrough when you get it. Therefore, if you’re having trouble with a particular skill, simply search the guide and you’ll find what you’re looking for.

Please read the “Gameplay Primer” below to familiarize yourself with the basics of the game.

Gameplay Primer

The Fan Menu

The fan menu is your central database of information. You can access it by hitting the “+” button.

Tools and Equipment – This first screen gives you access to your Tools and Equipment menu. It also shows your currently equipped Main and Sub weapon (don’t worry about that until later), any Holy Artifacts you have (again, don’t worry about that), your health, how much money (Yen) you have, and how many Demon Fangs you have.

Your Tools menu shows things like Feedbags, Exorcism Slips, Gold Dust, etc. Again, don’t worry about any of this now…just know it’s there. Your Equipment menu is primarily your weapons. You can select the weapon you want from this menu. You can also equip/unequip any Holy Artifacts you have earned.

For now, just worry about your Feedbags, as that’s what you’re going to use to feed animals.

Praise Upgrade

You can upgrade your Health, Ink, Astral Pouches, and Wallet (see below for explanations of all of these), in this menu. Upgrading these items costs you Praise. You earn Praise by doing things like feeding animals or helping people out. The amount of Praise you currently have is shown at the top of this menu. To spend that Praise, simply scroll down to the item you want to upgrade and then press and hold the “A” button until, for example, the health bar fills up. If you don’t have enough Praise, it simply won’t be spent.

At first, you’ll want to stick to upgrading your health and then your ink. Don’t worry about the other stuff until later.

Brush Strokes

This menu simply shows you the brush strokes you’ve earned, and the motion you need to do in order to perform that brushstroke.

Logs, Tomes, and Lists

This is your information clearing house. This section contains everything you need to know in the game and is a great resource. Here is a quick breakdown of each section:

Log Book – This tells you what you need to do next. It also contains the four Wanted Lists in the game (different people give you a list of monsters they need to get rid of).

Travel Guide – These are scrolls that you find, for example when you get a new Brush Stroke, that give you instructions on how to use something or explains a feature in more detail.

Bestiary – A listing of all of the enemies you encounter in the game. Check it as it often contains a secret of how to beat a certain creature (as does this walkthrough).

Move List – This is a list of skills that you’ve learned from any of the Dojos in the game. Again, don’t worry about this now. As you proceed in the game, you can buy new moves from the Dojo and they simply appear here for reference.

Animal Tome – Shows the percentage of each type of animal that you’ve fed thus far in the game. This walkthrough contains the location of every single animal so that you’ll end up with a 100% complete Animal Tome.

Fish Tome – There is a fishing mini-game in the game. This simply lists the type of fish you’ve caught.

Treasure Tome – Lists the various types of treasures you’ve found, and if you are currently carrying any (the little number at the bottom of each treasure).

Stray Beads – There are 99 Stray Beads scattered throughout this game. This walkthrough contains the location of, and how to get, every single one of them. This menu shows which ones you’ve already gotten.

Map

The map is, well, a map. At first you can’t zoom in or out. You’ll get this ability once you’ve been to more places.

You are the white/red wolf head on the map and the direction of your nose is the direction you’re pointing.

Up is always North on the map.

The circle with an X in it is an Origin Mirror, aka, a save point.

Any place that you need to go is marked with a red circle (this happens only when there is a particular place that you need to go, so don’t worry if you don’t see any red circles on the map).

Solar Energy (Health)

Throughout this walkthrough, this is referred to as “health”. Your health bar is in the upper left of the screen. At first, it is quite small, but don’t worry about it. You can upgrade your health in one of two ways: 1) By using Praise to upgrade your health bar or, 2) By finding Sun Fragments. Every three Sun Fragments equals one extra dot of health. Every single Sun Fragment is listed in this walkthrough. Simply search for “Sun Fragment” if you’re looking for one in particular.

Ink Pots (Ink)

Ink allows you to paint. Each time you paint something, it will use up one ink pot (some advanced strokes later on will use up more). Ink pots refill automatically over time. At first, you don’t need much ink, however, as the game progresses you’ll want to add ink pots by using Praise to purchase upgrades in the Fan Menu.

Astral Pouch

A full astral pouch serves as an automatic life, a second chance, if you will. If you die in battle, and have a full pouch, you’ll simply continue on with the battle with a fresh set of health. Each astral pouch can hold 200 pieces of fruit. You get fruit by slashing trees, breaking jars, talking to certain people, etc. In all honesty, you’ll rarely even have to worry about this.

Wallet

Your wallet holds money (Yen). If you see that you are about to max out your wallet, you’ll want to upgrade it (use Praise to upgrade it).

Praise

Praise is used to upgrade your health, ink, the astral pouch, and the wallet. You earn praise by blooming trees, blooming clovers, feeding animals, rejuvenating purple patches of grass, and completing certain tasks for certain people. At first, just worry about feeding animals.

Yen (Money)

Money is used to buy things, crazy, I know. Almost every area in the game has a Merchant. There are two ways to earn money in the game: 1) Sell treasures and/or fish to the merchant, 2) Defeat enemies. The main thing that you want to buy with your money are weapons.

Tackle, Dash, Charge

I use these three terms interchangeably in the walkthrough. The technical term is “tackle”. This is the action where you shake the Wii Remote and you dash forward for an attack. I may also refer to it as a charge attack.

Jumping

The controls in the game are pretty basic and are taught to you as the game progresses. However, you really need to know about two things: the Jump Dash, and the Double Jump Dash.

At the beginning of the game you have the Jump Dash ability, but probably don’t know it. To do it, jump with “A” and then shake the Wii Remote to dash forward. Using this skill, you can cover more distance on your jumps.

Later in the game you’ll gain the ability to double jump. The Double Jump Dash is simply doing a double jump and then shaking the Wii Remote to dash at the end of it, allowing you to jump an even longer distance.

Feeding Animals

The animals…they are so hungry! Throughout the game you’ll encounter a plethora of animals. They run the gamut from Sparrows to Tigers to Racoons. You can check out each animal in the Animal Tome in your fan menu if you wish.

Feeding animals gives you Praise. Praise is used to upgrade things, so this is a good thing. In each section of this walkthrough, in the “Extras” section, you’ll find a list of the animals in that area. The only confusing thing when it comes to animals is the Dogs, as they are part of the story, yet you still need to feed them. If you are confused by this, please see the “Animal Tome Confusion – Dogs” section at the end of this walkthrough.

Brush Strokes

There are 13 main brush strokes in the game. In addtion, there are a variety of “secret” brush strokes, which are essentially upgrades to your regular brush strokes. Every single normal and secret brush stroke is found in this walkthrough. If you want to find them all, simply follow this walkthrough, or search for the term “brush stroke”.

There are a few general tips in regard to brush strokes that you may want to keep in mind now, although you won’t be able to utilize them until later.

When you get the Cherry Bomb skill, aka, bomb, know that the size that you draw the bomb affects where the bomb appears. If you draw it small, it’ll appear farther away from you. If you draw it large, it’ll appear closer to you.

When you get the Galestorm skill, note that the larger you draw the swirl, the more powerful the wind.

In general, just keep in mind that the way you draw things will often affect the outcome.

Devil Fangs

Devil Fangs are a sort of currency that you can use to buy special items. There are three characters in the game who will trade you for Devil Fangs, although the only one of any merit is the Emperor in Sei-an City. They’re not anything you really have to worry about until later in the game. That being said, there is no reason you shouldn’t go ahead and start collecting them.

There are three ways to earn Devil Fangs: 1) Do a finishing move on enemies or, 2) Do the mini-game during a “loading” screen, or 3) Buy a skill which will release Devil Fangs.

Finishing moves can be performed on enemies immediately after the die, as they go into the air. The easiest way to explain this is with an example. Imps are the most common enemy in the game. When they die, they buckle over and go flying into the air. Quickly use Power Slash, to slash the imp while in the air, and you’ll see a Devil Fang pop out.

Each enemy has a specific finishing move. Just expirement with different moves on different enemies to see what works. Note that finising moves can be Power Slash, Galestorm, Veil of Mist, Cherry Bomb, and Thunderstorm.

You really don’t need to know about this now as there are a few places later on (Spider Grottos) where you can earn hundreds of Devil Fangs.

The second way to earn them is to do the mini-game on the loading screen. If you see a blank screen while the game is loading, start mashing on your “A” button and you’ll see paw prints appear. Get in 50 of them before the load ends and you’ll see a Devil Fang. The other little mini-game is when you see the paw prints cross the screen from left to right. If you hit the “A” button in sequence with the paws, they’ll get big. Get big paws all the way across the screen and you’ll get a Devil Fang. A personal note, I was never able to do this…it’s very frustrating.

The third way is to buy a skill and/or amulet which helps you get Devil Fangs from enemies.

Don’t worry about any of this right now. It’s all discussed in the walkthrough.

Stray Beads

This walkthrough contains the locations of all 99 Stray Beads (the 100th is given to you for completing the game). Stray Beads are scattered throughout this entire game, some in buried treasure chests, some as rewards for doing favors for characters. You often need a special skill or a certain brush stroke to get a bead. These requirements are all discussed in the walkthrough.

Clovers

Clovers are marked with a green beam of light. Dig it up and Bloom it (once you get the Bloom power) for Praise.

Hidden Chests/Digging

You have the ability to dig. As the game progresses you’ll want to buy “Digging Champ” from the Dojo in Shinshu Field. It’ll an upgrade that allows you to dig through stone patches of ground.

You can dig up hidden chests (buried chests). They are easy to locate at night as there is a white beam of light shining down on them. They are also not very difficult to find during the day as you’ll see a little golden ring poking up through the ground.

Weapons

You can have two weapons at any given time, a Main weapon and a Sub weapon. Every weapon has a unique skill based upon whether you have it equipped as Main or Sub. You can switch up your weapons at any point, so just use different ones to see what you like. I personally prefer bead weapons as they have a long attack distance.

You can enhance (make more powerful) your weapons using Gold Dust, one gold dust per weapon. Gold Dust is available to buy at certain merchants and for completing the Wanted Lists (you’ll come upon these as you play the game).

Origin Mirrors/Saving

You can save at Origin Mirrors. You should save often and in different slots so that you can go back to a previous save if something doesn’t go your way. Later in a game you can buy an item which allows you to teleport between some origin mirrors.

Demon Gates and Devil Gates

Demon Scrolls are the floating scrolls that you see, well, floating around. If you run into one, or it runs into you, you’ll have to fight a group of enemies. Often a Demon Scroll battle arena has a crack in the wall. You can attack that crack until it turns pink/red and then escape through it to avoid fighting the enemies.

Devil Gates are the permanent arch/gate-like structures that you encounter here and there. In general, you’ll want to enter these and clear the enemies inside. It will result in the land around the Devil Gate being rejuvenated.

Godhood

Godhood is essentially a shield. You build up the shield by not taking damage and by stringing together consecutive hits. The Godhood symbol appears in the lower left of the screen. If it’s red, yellow, or green, it means you have the shield and that you can take a hit without taking damage. If it’s a skull and crossbones icon, it means you don’t have a shield ready.

You can also increase Godhood by using items.

In all hosesty, though, you really don’t even have to worry about this. It’s nice if you have a shield to absorb a hit, but you could play through the entire game and not even know it’s there.

Mermaid Springs

Later in the game you’ll gain the ability to warp between mermaid springs. This is purely a convenience thing. You do need a Mermaid Coin, which you can buy at a merchant, in order to activate the spring. Later you can gain a brush stroke which activates it for you.
